Binu Baby, President, Kerala State Committee, All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO) demanded the immediate withdrawal of policies that would destroy the peaceful life and livelihood of the people of Lakshadweep, and the recall of anti-people administrator Praful Patel.
All the policies which have been implemented since Praful Patel, Modi’s loyal administrator, came to power has been anti – people barring none. Anganwadis were closed, meat was removed from the menu of educational institutions, and the island’s alcohol ban was lifted. In Lakshadweep, where health care facilities are limited, the increase in Covid cases could lead to serious problems. The relaxation in Covid protocols has brought the number of cases to 5000 from zero!
Sheds built to safekeep the islanders’ fishing nets and other equipments were demolished without any warning and natives working as temporary employees in various government offices were dismissed.
In Lakshadweep, a model area where jails are empty, the Goonda Act was enforced, and those who participated in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act were arrested.
In this manner, Praful Patel is carrying out draconian measures that are destroying the cultural, social and economic life of the people of Lakshadweep.
AIDSO calls upon all wishers of democracy to unite against these policies and support the life struggle of the people of Lakshadweep.
